Dana's story

Dana picked me at a shelter in Dec 2001, and her friend Scully came to live with us too. In Sept 2008, Dana had pancreatitis which I have since been told can be caused by a disfunctioning auto immune system. Then on 21st May 09, she collapsed and had an ultrasound and was diagnosed with HSA on her heart, spleen and kidney. She had her heart drained and came home like nothing had happened. I couldn't believe that there was anything wrong with her! There were no signs that anything was wrong except she had slowed down a little. We thought this was due to a sore shoulder that she had strained when she had a TPLO and would put her weight forward onto the shoulder. She was having physio and acupuncture treatment for that. We arrranged for another specialist to see her with a different type of ultrasound to confrim that it was definitely HSA. It was confirmed. We were told to take her home, see how she goes and come back in 2 weeks if necessary. We were told there were no medications or procedures that could help her. She had been on various different diets, but leading up to this had been on a low fat diet, with veg, eggs, meat and a good quality kibble. I immediately changed her diet to free range organic chicken with veggies, eggs (twice a week), fish oil, milk thistle, yunnan baiyo and K9 transfer factor, co onzymes and one other that I can't remember the name of now. She collapsed with a second bleed within 5 days and went back in for another drain. I wanted her to have a peri cardial removal to allow the blood to disperse through her lungs, but the specialist said she would more than likely bleed out and die on the operating table. He said as her tumors were so large on her heart, there was nothing they could do for her. We took her home again and decided that if she lasted another week without another bleed, she would have another drain. Dana collapsed with a third bleed 2 days later and we decided to help her to the Bridge. My heart shattered into a million peices on that day and still has not healed, I don't think it ever will. An animal communicator told me that Dana was happy to go to the bridge as she had not been feeling great for about 3 years. She had a series of other illnesses before getting cancer. I never thought that she would get cancer, but I guess none of us do. The communicator also told me things that only Dana could have known, so had to I believe her when she said that Dana is happy where she is now, at the Rainbow Bridge.

O'malley's owner Liz, Thank you sooo much for your answer! I will tell O'Malley to look for Dana if he has not found her yet :) Dana looks so sweet and happy on the picture. I am glad to see that I am not the only one that feels that she is getting signs from her beloved dog since he left... I do too feel like I am getting messages from O'Malley and it is so strange and powerful at the same time... my logical mind has a hard time to understand it but I guess this is more a matter of the heart... I wish the animal communicator was here in the us... I will surely google her name and see from there. I do not want to go see a fake person who takes advantage of people who are grieving for a lost one... My heart goes to you and all of us who understand how painful it can be to lose a furry kid... Estelle.

O'malley's owner Hello Rena, I am so sorry for your loss and just posted my dog O'Malley's story on the site after reading your story, he also died of hemangiosarcoma of the heart in April 2009 and had had a TPLO surgery (for a torn acl) just a few weeks before finding out about the cancer... anyway, I wanted to know if you could give me info about the animal communicator you speak about, that would be great. I am not sure I believe in it but part of me wants so badly to know that O'Malley is okay wherever he is now... Thank you. Estelle

Dana's owner Hi Estelle I'm so sorry you lost O'Malley too. It's so heartbreaking. I miss my girl so much. Dana had her TPLO in 2003, so I'm not sure if it had anything to do with getting HSA. But she did have pancreatitis and I've heard tha it can be a precursor to cancer. The animal communicator is here in Melbourne Australia and she also does phone consults. Her name is Caroline Pope and if you google her name, you will see her website. She was really good, and I felt like I had a real connection with Dana through her. I have had many, many signs from Dana since she went to the bridge. I bet O'Malley and Dana are flirting right now! He sure is handsome. I'm sure they are all happy where they are, free of pain and lying in the sun. It sure helped me knowing through the communicator that Dana was happy though. Liz

Rena's owner A friend on another site told me she used a communicator the morning her dog died and it was a great comfort. I wish I had done it with my girl. Maybe I still can? Another thing, my dog had had some digestive issues and skin allergies which we never resolved and spondlyosis, and our other dog had just died in March. In retrospect, all that stress is probably what led to a weakened immune system. The changes I made in her diet were dramatic, and had it not been agressive, metastatic HSA, she might have done better because her coat looked marvelous, so it was a grain allergy of some kind. Moral of the story, feed and care for your dog like their lives depend on it.
