Jack's story

Jack is a gentle giant. We live in South Africa where we have a high crime rate, but I have always felt safe at home with him, he started protecting me when he was just 7mths acting agressive with the guy who was installing the security system in our house. He is a big intimidating dog with a rough edge but has a heart of gold and loves our family with everything he has. He broke his left leg just below the knee in November last year. He was operated on and had a pin inserted. When the vet removed the pin he said he wasn't happy with a growth on the bone. This has since been tested and we were informed yesterday that our gentle giant has bone cancer and doesn't have long to live. We were given 3 options : amputate the leg, put him down, or put him on medication. We have opted for the last option as he has been through so much pain already and there is a good chance that the cancer has spread. We are now preparing ourselves to say goodbye to him sometime soon. My son, who is 11 is probably the member of the family taking it the worst. Jack has been such a amazing member of our family its going to be really hard to say goodbye.

Bailey's owner Hello to you and your handsome Jack. So sorry to hear of the OS diagnosis, and heartbroken to see another Ridgeback added to the list of OSA dogs. If you're interested in any information on supplements, or home cooked diet, or just support in general, please feel free to send us a note or email - we did many of these things with our Bailey bug during his cancer battle. We got 7.5 months with amp, chemo, and lots of other natural / holistic based approaches. Big ridgie hugs to your boy.

Jack's owner Thanks for your response. We are reluctant to go the amp route at this stage as he has already been through so much with the break to the leg. The vet also thinks that the cancer has already spread, we'll confirm this with him shortly. Any advice on diet and approaches to make him comfortable would be appreciated.
