My dog gina was always very willing to catch a frisbee or loved to fetch a ball. She was the best when I took her to herd sheep. That she did naturally. One day I noticed that she was holding her front leg up, I thought oh shes getting older maybe she pulled something. Well it didnt go away so I took her to the Vet. Never ever thinking it was anything. He did an xray and said he didnt like what he saw on her shoulder. He said if it was bone cancer we would have to amputate to save her. I was shocked. Take my dogs leg off! What if he was wrong. How could I do that? That was a terrible decision to make. To see a dog that just loved to run and was so athletic. Made me sick to think about what would be in store for her. After all she wouldnt understand. That bothered me the most. She wouldnt understand. Well I made the deciision after talking to alot of people. People who have gone thru that. She had the leg removed. The day of the surgery she did walk out of the vets office. She didnt look or feel great but she did walk out. Now over a year later she is doing really good. No signs of cancer. She is on supplements to boost her immune system. I know that is the best thing I did for her. She still catches the frisbee and gets our newspaper. I havent taken her sheep herding but I bet she would still try to accomplish that job. Shes actually pretty fast on 3 legs.
get them on a immune booster. dont give up there are things out there that can help. cancer loves carbs, get them on quality food. Also watch the vaccinations. gina always had a reaction to the rabies shot.
