On April 13th my husband came home to find our 10 year old German Shepherd, Cheyenne, in complete distress. She was having major difficulty breathing, was very disoriented, had blue gums/tongue, and seemed to have been drugged. He immediately loaded her into the truck driving straight to the vet, praying the whole time that she wouldn't die on the way there. One and a half days later, Chey underwent emergency surgery to remove her spleen, which was riddled with bleeding tumors. Although the prognosis wasn't great we hoped for the best. Unfortunately, as we had feared, on April 22nd Cheyenne was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma. Although we're fortunate that her cancer has not spread past a small portion of her liver, her prognosis is still just 3-6 months.
Devastated and determined, my husband and I took to the internet to see what we could do. Luckily we came across Aimee's website and her story about Cody and couldn't be more thankful to her and everyone that posts here! The information & inspiration we have found are invaluable! We've opted to treat Chey with oral medications along with a meat/veggie diet and natural supplements. We've already started the transition for both her and our 2 year old Shepherd, Calihan.
The thought of losing Chey to this vile disease breaks our hearts! It gives us hope though, that with the right diet/lifestyle changes, along with our positive attitude, Cheyenne has a fighting chance!
